Battle Lab SCIF & Vehicle Service Bay – Fort Gordon, GA

The project for the Battle Lab SCIF and Vehicle Service Bay at Fort Gordon consisted of a subsurface exploration and geotechnical engineering evaluation for a proposed changes and expansion on the base in Augusta, Georgia. BECC performed the geotechnical work as a member of an awarded Multiple Award Task Order Contract (MATOC) team. Much of the work focused on the design and construction of the new Vehicle Service Bay and the expansion of the existing parking lot.

Subsurface Investigation

Fort Gordon lies on the Twiggs Clay Formation of the Coastal Plain Provence, which contains a fine-grained quartz sand. Seven (7) soil borings and transported samples to the laboratory where additional tests were conducted to determine the properties and behaviors of the various materials.

In order to determine the seismic site class definition of the site, a deep soil boring was performed to a depth of 100 feet.

Project Scope

  • Client- United States Army
  • 7 soils borings (1 deep soil boring)

Design Recommendations

Based on the findings from the subsurface investigation, BECC provided cost effective recommendations for the foundations. BECC additionally provided design recommendations for a retaining wall, floor slab support, and a parking lot pavement design.
