Good Hope Heavy Maneuver Training Area – Fort Benning, GA
The Good Hope Heavy Maneuver Training Area project consisted of subsurface exploration and geotechnical engineering evaluation for a proposed trail way remediation at Fort Benning in Columbus, Georgia. BECC performed the geotechnical work as a member of an awarded Multiple Award Task Order Contract (MATOC) team. The trail project included the paving of turn-a-rounds and intersections as well as aggregate paved trail ways throughout the extensive trail way and training area for the United States Army.
Subsurface Investigation
Fort Benning lies on the Coastal Plain Sedimentary Deposits geological formation, which contains various Upper Cretaceous deposits such as sand, clay, gravel, and marl. BECC performed ninety-nine (99) soil borings and transported samples to the laboratory where additional tests were conducted to determine the properties and behaviors of the various materials.
Project Scope
- Client- United States Army
- 11+ miles of trail way
Design Recommendations
Based on the findings from the subsurface investigation, BECC provided a site plan illustrating geological conditions, earthwork and compaction recommendations, a concrete pavement design, and an aggregate pavement design.
